Yesterday, we went to the London Assembly to listen to the mayor answer questions.
While I love local government and understand its importance, I generally think these types of events are boring. Boy, was I wrong.
British politicians are not here to play. During our visit, the mayor was accused of falsifying numbers in his report of affordable housing deliverance.
The politicians here differ from those in the US because things don’t get as heated on the local level. I think this is due to the fact that London is so large. You surely wouldn’t witness this level of intensity in Hattiesburg.
The meeting also brought up issues of violence and hate crimes, public transport and Brexit. It’s very interesting to hear about the issues facing London, since you usually only hear about knife violence and air pollution.
